Interesting…

I mean sure, Regina didn’t give up her ship or anything… only HER OWN HAPPY ENDING for Emma and Henry. But hey no biggie right.

For a long time with this scene I was a little bit annoyed at the SQ slant the fandom put on it because even though the way it’s shot, the feels it gives, Regina has no choice but to provide a life for Henry because she absolutely will not have him left behind all by himself, and Emma is the only one who can escape the curse.
No one doubts that she will give Henry good memories, but she has to have Emma’s memories match up with Henry’s. She has to give Emma good memories too.
But the more I watch it, the more I realise that the scene is not about the gift of memories that Regina is giving Emma, but rather the confidence she is placing in her. She knows Emma doesn’t want to leave, she’s been cast out of enough homes her whole life, always being pushed away. She’s terrified of being a single mother, she doesn’t trust herself, she’s thinking she can’t do this alone.
Regina is telling her she can. She trusts her. She believes in her ability to be a great mother to their son. She’s assuring her it will be alright, and Emma believes her, because Regina isn’t lying and she can always tell when she is. This is the “I believe in you” moment.
